Danny Chaucer’s Flying Saucer, Albury Books, a children’s e-book by Christopher Peter.
Plot: Danny Chaucer is awakened during the night by a noise that he decides to investigate in the morning. He awakens too late and must leave for school. Natalie (Nat) Ford, a new girl in school is assigned to the seat next to him. She is unpopular, as most new children in a new school and bullied by Sandy Wright and Chad Wilson, who also bully Danny. Through unusual circumstances, Danny accepts Nat and they discover an invisible Flying Saucer in a clearing in the forest behind his home. His mother’s brother, Dr. Colin Box is the senior director of a top-secret project at the locally positioned research institute and is extremely worried because he has ‘lost’ the project’s main object which we discover to be the space craft the children have discovered. His worries are exacerbated by the fact that Security Captain Frost recently has been attempting to ‘get inside’ the project and her desires may not be in the best interest of the project or the government. The story revolves around the fact that the craft is controlled by a command station that has ‘a mind of its own’ and continues as the children are introduced to space and as an amusing aside, provide a frightening experience for the bullies.
Discussion: The author has set forth a true learning experience for children in a manner they most readily can understand and should set forth a spark of incentive for further learning.
5* Understandable and enlightening space story for children.
