THE COIN

It won the finalist award in the INDIE National Excellence Competition beating out competitors in the mystery and suspense category. That convinced me to buy the book. And having read it I understand why it won the award. The Coin is really rich. It is so evident that the author really knows his stuff. The description of the ancient coin and how the world moved from barter to currency in ancient times is fascinating. If this was a history lesson it was one that was just as exciting as it was informative. But there’s more. The descriptions of Muslim culture and locales are so true to reality that I was actually transported to the desert described in the book. This book is believable in every sense of the word and that makes it a memorable read which I have already recommended to all the book-lovers I know.William R. Wheeler 5 Stars Amazon

THE COIN (Reissue of THE ELYMAIS COIN in e-book)
If you like adventure, mystery and suspense laced with a generous dollop of sex and international intrigue this is one book you won’t want to pass up. Great value for the money – as good if not better than many books by more famous authors that are much more expensive – a great deal!  Mark Kaye 5 Star Review Amazon

Midwest Book Reviews
“The Elymais Coin Manhold is knowledgeable of not only Middle East politics and geography, but also of world geography. His tale is not so much suspenseful as is a “chase” surrounding the coin, with lots of lovely descriptions of various locations, restaurants, and food. Bravo!” Midwest Book Reviews.

The Elymais Coin…..a James Bond thriller which is a little more like the real world.
“The Elymais Coin” – I would recommend it to all that enjoy a James Bond thriller which is a little more like the real world.” William Phenn for Reader Views (www.readerviews.com/)

The Elymais Coin as a holiday gift! Amazon 5-star review
“The Elymais Coin” unfolds like a well-constructed Chinese Puzzle revealing depths of research and insight into ancient history and our 9/11 world. I would highly recommend “The Elymais Coin” as a holiday gift!” Amazon 5-star review.

El Tigre
A.C. The Peoples Media Company – Louise Harris, Review Editor….. I found El Tigre so captivating at times that I didn’t know what parts were fictional or true accounts. At times I got lost in the life of Johann Heinrich von Manfred and thought he was real.

John Taffin, Columnist for Gun Magazines – …..El Tigre is a grand read and Manhold now joins L’Amour and Kelton as my favorite storytellers.

Cal Eilrich, Publisher/Editor, Gunslinger’s Gazette…. It has been a long time since I have read such a thoroughly entertaining novel that kept me on the edge of my easy chair wondering what was going to happen next. It left me wanting more. I highly recommend this book.

Paul Krause, Prescott, AZ…. “Thank you for introducing me to such a rich character as El Tigre. And I thought the story telling was captivating. I couldn’t help but think of all the Louis L’Amour books I read many years back.

Amazon – 5 Star review by Mel Kligman, Sarasota, FL….”…particularly impressed by the scope of historical research, from Indian tribal differences to gold mining, included seamlessly into the narrative.

Beth Donahue, NMWBethDonahue@aol.com This is a book that I sat down to read and ended up devouring the entire book from first page through the last.    I was sorry when the story ended.  It was an excellent read and I honestly can’t make any suggestions or comments other than to say I loved all the words written on each page.  It is a well crafted story.  I think this was more of a “man’s story,” because of the fighting and battles, but as a woman I enjoyed the story, the romance, and the historical information. Manhold wrote an amazing story that can be enjoyed by each gender as well as those who don’t normally read historical novels. In Manhold’s bio it states he is 88 years old and this is his first novel.  He writes a really good story.  The characters are believable and I could picture them in my mind feeling I knew them personally.  There are just enough locale descriptions and the information on the Native American Indians was terrific.  I even liked the print type on the page!

 EL TIGRE II
The adventure begins with a train robbery. An explosion. Gunshots. And that’s just in the Prologue of El Tigre II, by John H. Manhold. In El Tigre II the saga continues of the life of wealthy banker and rancher Johann Heinrich von Manfred whose exploits in the American Southwest have earned him the title of El Tigre, the Jaguar.

In this second book of the El Tigre Series, Manhold takes the reader on another adventurous trip west.  In addition to the expected gunfights and ambushes, knife and sword combat, and Old Western hostilities, John H. Manhold immerses the reader in a tale of strong family loyalty and deep Love seldom found in Western novels.  El Tigre tackles trials and  tribulations that range from Spanish land grants, California politics, and vigilante justice to European jealousies and intrigues that go back to von Manfred’s days at the Prussian Military Academy.

A  veteran of  World War Two and Korea, John H. Manhold is known in Cowboy Action Shooting  circles as El Tigre Viejo, SASS Regulator #28083, a Life Member of the Single Action Shooting Society.  Manhold is also a sculptor, whose works in bronze, alabaster and African wonder stone are in private collections and museums, including a bust of Judge Roy Bean, SASS # 1, in the SASS Museum in Edgewood, New Mexico.

In addition, Manhold has published three award winning novels including Lobo,  The strange Life of William Jameson, The Elymais Coin, and, of course , El Tigre.  El Tigre II  is published by Sarah Book Publishing of Brownsville, Texas  and is available at www.sarahbookpublishing.com.

You won’t have to read the first book, El Tgre, to get into the El Tigre II story but this reviewer recommends that you do just that. (Copies are available in the SASS Mercantile.)  The emotional last scène in El Tigre II  will have you expecting another sequel.

(Sgt.  Shuster,  SASS  Regulator #60835, is a social and cultural Historian, founder of the Lincoln County Regulators in Ruidoso, NM.)

El Tigre II

The Saga Continues: As John Manhold’s El Tiger II is reviewed in Junior Shooters a magazine for the youth extending from their very early days through their teens and early post-teen years. JohnTaffin writes “…. “El Tigre II’ is ahard one to put down, and I myself read it in two sittings. Expect further adventures as the book ends with “The End (for now)”. If you haven’t yet read “El Tigre”, that is a good starting point, and then followit up with “El Tigre II” and then wait patiently for John Manhold tp finish “El Tigre III” and the further exploits of his alter ego.”

Sarah Book Publishing congratulates John, as he continues to lead us with his beautiful story in El Tigre II into a new era of a continuing saga. What a way to end the weekend. I call this our “Sunday night recap”.

I am enjoying the story.  It certainly moves along well.  Your efforts in research are impressive.  I’m learning things I had no idea of.  Like Louisiana’s resistance to succession at the beginning of the issue. I feel a privilege to know an author who’s work I enjoy.  I look forward to your next El Tigre. Paul Krause  (Prescott, AZ).
